Stop at the Missouri River Headwaters Park, near Three Forks, MT.

Learn about the 1805 discovery of Lewis and Clark as they found the three rivers converging to form the Missouri River.

Clark was ahead of Lewis, looking for traces of Sacagawea's tribe, when on July 25, 1805, he reached the headwaters of the Missouri. Lewis' contingent, following written instructions Clark left on the river bank, arrived two days later.

For Sacagawea, the place may have been a difficult reminder. It was there, five years earlier, that she was kidnapped and taken from her people by the Hidatsa. Lewis remarked that if the memory was upsetting to her, he could see no sign of it: (Read more here).

The Montana Living History Project will cook us dinner.

It will be served at an old historic ranch just 1/2 mile south of East Helena that has a round stone house and a big barn. Small bus ride for you.

They will use an 1880's Chuckwagon and grill

A decorated, buffet serving table

Cook the steaks on an outdoor bar-b-q (over charcoal)

Using the Kleffner Pavillion

The menu would include:

Baked Potato with Garnishments

Cowboy Beans


Peach Cobbler Cooked in Dutch Ovens

They also plan to do a short western skit.

We also expect to have a couple of Indian Drummers entertain.
